Kornelis Blok is Professor of Energy Systems Analysis at Delft University of Technology. He studied physics at Utrecht University and received a Ph.D. degree in 1991 on the thesis ‘On the Reduction of Carbon Dioxide Emissions’.

Kornelis has extensive research and consultancy experience in the field of energy efficiency improvement and clean energy production. He played an important role in the development of international climate policies and has worked in many countries around the world. He has authored and co-authored well over 100 peer-reviewed articles, including two in Nature Climate Change, several books and about 250 research reports, conference contributions and other scientific publications.

In 1984 he was one of the founders of Ecofys (now part of Navigant), a company he helped build into a leading international advisory on energy and climate. He is chairman of the Netherlands Energy Research Alliance in which the Dutch universities cooperate on energy research. He was a lead author for the 3rd and the 4th Assessment Reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and he will also be a lead author for the 6th Assessment Report (WGIII). His main research interests are costs and potentials of greenhouse gas mitigation and medium term transition strategies.
