  • Overview

    There is an urgent need to strengthen collective action and limit global warming to levels consistent with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. NEWPATHWAYS is developing and analysing next-generation Paris-aligned global and national low-emission transformation pathways for the next global stocktake in 2028.   

    Central to the project is a multi-level stakeholder dialogue, aimed at co-creating knowledge and building capacity to ensure the relevance and uptake of its findings. The NEWPATHWAYS Consortium brings together a strong combination of global and national pathway modelling capabilities, as well as expertise from social sciences, economics, and policy analysis. National modelling teams from countries across the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Europe—representing two-thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions—will contribute valuable insights to inform climate action. 

    These national modelling efforts will provide policymakers and stakeholders with critical insights to strengthen climate action and help achieve the long-term objectives of the Paris Agreement.

  • Objectives

    NEWPATHWAYS aims to:
    • Establish a sound understanding of international climate policy trends  
    • Develop the next generation of global transformation pathways, exploring solutions to “bend the global emissions curve”  
    • Analyse new national pathways that align with global transformation pathways consistent with the Paris Agreement  
    • Align equity considerations and financial flows to strengthen climate action  
    • Co-create knowledge and build capacity with scenario users
