Climate Strategies is part of the consortium that operates the Secretariat of the European Commission’s Platform for Coal Regions in Transition until 2021, together with Ecorys (consortium leader), Wuppertal Institut and ICLEI.
Governments, business and regions all around the world are moving beyond coal and carbon-intensive technologies. All Europeans should benefit from this transition, and no region should be left behind when moving away from fossil fuels. The Platform for Coal Regions in Transition, established in 2017, helps European countries, regions, communities and workers to the take on the challenge of the required economic diversification of the clean energy transition.

(24/06/2019) The Secretariat of the Platform for Coal Regions in Transition has launched its call for applications for START – Secretariat Technical Assistance for Regions in Transition.
START is designed to assist coal regions in the process of economic diversification and energy transition.
Successful applicants can receive support in 3 areas: strategy and governance development, project identification and project development. START is intended to address gaps in currently available technical assistance. Neither the Platform for Coal Regions in Transition nor its Secretariat provide funds for regional transition strategies and projects; technical assistance is rather aimed at facilitating capacity building, knowledge transfer and good practice sharing, including for the identification and effective use of funding opportunities.
A START applicant needs to be a public authority and applications must be submitted to the Secretariat of the Platform for Coal Regions in Transition by 20 September 2019.
Further guidance and the application form can be found on the Platform’s webpage or by contacting the Secretariat (email@example.com with the subject heading “Technical assistance: application form”).
