A new NET-RAPIDO report by Perspectives Climate Group examines how to track greenhouse gas removals. It provides an overview of existing and planned carbon dioxide removal tracking methodologies and proposes refinement and revisions of existing ones to respond to gaps.
This final publication of the NET-RAPIDO project comes a few days after the latest IPCC report analysed the role of carbon removals in climate change mitigation.
The NET-RAPIDO team recommends to
- Develop baseline and monitoring methodologies for all (emerging) removal approaches.
- Increase consistency including what it means to store CO2 permanently.
