The Dala Institute and Climate Strategies have released a Just Transition guide for Indonesian decision-makers. The toolkit provides policymakers, businesses and civil society with guidelines and a checklist to ensure the shift to a green economy is a win for all Indonesians. The new guide comes amid efforts in Indonesia to speed up the phase out of coal as part of the Just Energy Transition Partnership.
Key recommendations for policymakers include:
- Establish a Commission to lead and coordinate just transition planning
- Build on existing initiatives to support affected workers and communities
- Listen to young people and invest in the education system to make sure they have the skills and knowledge to excel in a low-carbon economy
- Use the knowledge of local communities.
Lessons from other countries and the latest Just Transition research have fed into the guidelines. The toolkit is part of the South to South Just Transitions initiative.
