Impact achieved through our projects:
We increase ambition in national and international climate policies. For example, our work demonstrated the feasibility of accelerating Denmark’s fossil fuel transition by ten years, laid the foundation for the South African Just Energy Transition Partnership, and inspired Namibia to develop a national plan to accelerate society-wide transitions. At the international level, we regularly advise negotiators on strategies to increase ambition for Just Transitions and overcome divisions in the UNFCCC.
We spearhead new concepts and approaches that advance climate action. We often act as a ‘first mover,’ identifying new climate policy challenges and researching innovative solutions. For example, our research provided the intellectual foundation for the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. We were also one of the first organisations to use Just Transitions to tackle inequality in adaptation policies, and the first to leverage Just Transitions to support oil & gas phaseout in the UNFCCC.
We coordinate international actors to enable productive dialogue and exchange. We co-convened a group of international decisionmakers to foster visionary leadership to raise ambition for fossil fuel phase-out in selected oil-and-gas-dependent countries. (Photo Credit: Richard Schabetsberger)
We strengthen the research, communication, and policy advocacy capacities of partner institutions and researchers. We partner with researchers developing transformational and technological solutions to the climate crisis—from new economic models to low-carbon construction materials. We facilitate knowledge co-creation with diverse stakeholders, ensuring the real-world relevance of technical findings.
