Thank you for joining this workshop on Europe’s Post-Coal Future. We brought together a range of stakeholders and projects from EIT RIS countries[1] to discuss barriers to just transitions of coal regions.
During the first half of the event, experiences of three Climate-KIC projects (CEE Community Lab Regions, Rybnik 360 Deep Demonstration, and a project in Gipuzkoa in Spain), were shared.
An interactive engagement followed on the blockages to just transitions in RIS countries. Various stakeholders impacted by and involved in coal transitions within RIS countries elaborated on their experiences. Climate Strategies and WiseEuropa shared their lessons learned during the Post-Coal Future Lab scoping project.
The event was made possible with funding from EIT Climate-KIC, delivered in collaboration with Climate Strategies and WiseEuropa.
Objectives:
- Knowledge exchange on barriers to just transitions in RIS coal regions.
- A dialogue between stakeholders from various RIS coal regions.
- Improve understanding of how barriers to systemic transformation and just transitions can be addressed, and what is already being done.
- Inform the focus of a Post-Coal Future Lab in 2022.
