Thu, 30 June 2022 | London Climate Action Week online event
How can we achieve a just transition in Global South? Through the initiative South to South Just Transitions, a network of nine developing countries are working together to develop and explore how to apply just transition principles apply in their countries.
This interactive dialogue brought together insights from researchers across the globe on the challenges and opportunities encountered in their just transition journey.
Climate transitions across different sectors like energy, agriculture and transport require that the impacts or costs associated with changing practices are fairly distributed, and do not increase inequality or make some people more vulnerable. Just transition also requires that the process of planning involves affected people, ideally driven by those living and working in regions that will be most affected. This is particularly important in countries in the Global South, which not only must tackle climate change but also address significant socioeconomic development challenges, including poverty reduction.
