Volunteer Board Member  |  Two positions  |  Remote, with meetings held online

Climate Strategies is an international not-for-profit working at the science-policy interface. We bring together leading climate researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders to address critical gaps in climate policy and translate high-quality research into meaningful action. Our work covers a broad range of issues, from adaptation and carbon management to new technologies and just transitions, and we do this through a small Secretariat and a wide international network of members.

We’re currently looking for two new Board Members to help us deliver our 2026-2029 strategy.

The role in brief

Our Board sets the strategic direction of Climate Strategies and keeps an eye on its finances, risks and governance. In practice, that means you’ll:

  • Help shape the strategic direction and long-term development of Climate Strategies
  • Offer support and constructive input to the Chair, Managing Director, and fellow Board Members
  • Act as an ambassador for Climate Strategies and help develop relationships with relevant stakeholders

You don’t need previous Board experience – just good judgement, a collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to tackling climate change.

What we’re really looking for

Our network is rich in climate research and policy expertise. What we need on the Board is the experience that is underrepresented amongst our members. We’d especially love to hear from people with a background in one or more of these areas:

  • Financial oversight
  • Fundraising and business development
  • Private Sector
  • Influential international networks
  • Communications and/or advocacy
  • Media – traditional and social
  • Organisational strategy and development
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Behaviour change and climate psychology

This list isn’t exhaustive. If you bring a different discipline or skill that you think would strengthen our Board, tell us what it is and how it could help.

The practical bits

  • Time: four online Board meetings a year, plus time to read papers and the occasional extra conversation or piece of work. We recognise our Board Members have other commitments and will use their time well.
  • Term: Approximately 2 years, with the option to stand again.
  • Pay: this is a voluntary, unpaid role. Reasonable expenses are covered for any in-person requests.

Everyone is welcome

Different experiences and perspectives make for better decisions. We particularly encourage applications from people whose voices are underrepresented in climate research and policy, and from anyone who has never considered joining a Board before.

How to apply

Send your CV and a short supporting statement (one page) to HR@climatestrategies.org. In your statement, tell us why you’d like to join and what you would bring – especially from the areas above.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal conversation with members of the Board and/or Secretariat.

There is currently no fixed deadline, and we are actively reviewing applications, therefore you are encouraged to apply early.
