Professor Samuel Fankhauser is Co-Director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, and Deputy Director of the ESRC-funded Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy, both at the London School of Economics.

He is also a Director of economics consultancy Vivid Economics and serves on the Committee on Climate Change, an independent public body that advises the UK government on carbon targets.

Previously, Sam served as Deputy Chief Economist and Director of Policy Studies at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Before that he worked at the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility and in the private sector.

Sam’s research interests broadly lie in the area of environment and development, including climate finance and carbon markets, the economics of adaptation to climate change and climate policy in the UK. A list of his publications can be found on the website of the Grantham Research Institute.

Sam studied Economics at the University of Berne (Switzerland), the London School of Economics (LSE) and University College London (UCL).
